Note No. 11. Wedding Incidents, Mountain Walks and Painting

8th July 1819

Good morning, my lovely diary! I slept well last night. I also hope that you are dry enough after last writing. I wish you were clean. I would not see ink everywhere on your pages.

I can continue wedding reminisces today! When did we end? Right! Fireworks.

That view was unforgettable but unfortunately not every person can glory such positive thoughts to the rest of their lives. Just before the ending of display, tragic accident occurred. One of fireworks hit surrounding cottages. Two of them caught on fire and burnt completely in only few minutes. At least nobody ended their life that night. All of that happened a little because of us, everything was happening in front of our eyes, so it is obvious that me and William decided to help fire victims. We ensured them roof over heads in our palace until new houses stand. That is what we could at least do. After all, we will not take our money to graves but poor and affected people will live better, at least that much of delight they will get living this life. We must help when it is possible.

Alright, enough of sad things! Just after the ending of fireworks display, we came back to ballroom. After that incident it was hard to go back to reality, but with every composition played by our orchestra things were getting better, smiles were going back on our guest’s faces. When I gave every dance to my lovely husband, he took me to alcove. Night was still young, and we still did not want to sleep or fulfil any obligations. It was our night so… We had a little fun. Do you know now? Yes! A pillow fight! Feathers were everywhere! On the carpet, in every recess, even behind les tableaux (paintings), which were hanging on walls. I have no idea how it could happen. Funnily enough, we started jumping on the bed. William felt a little sorry because we broke that bed. To the ground, unfortunately. That is why we had to end this memorable night on the floor.

This is how our first day of wedding looked like. Now you know everything. Next days were not too special. Only a lot of dancing and laughing…  What I am saying! One more thing I must tell you about.

William wanted to break away from people and dancing, it was probably the third day, that is why he took me for a walk to the park. It was first time when I went there while he used to come there when he was a child. That is the place where he spent his young years dreaming of great love. We sit on the stone bench by the lake. Since then it is our favourite secret place. Sound of water, this characteristic fishy smell, birds twitter, pleasing shadow, and cooling wind. In addition, this beautiful view! It is breath taking! I fell in love with the view of water, reflecting trees of menagerie of the second side. Surface of water can be like a mirror.

French garden. The second perfect place for a walk for a pair. My darling William had two fountains made for me. One in rose garden, next one next to the orangery. I love it so much! It was his wedding present for me.

What did I prepare for him? A hunting! I know he likes such a fun so just after the wedding days his brothers, cousins, neighbours, and close friends arrived. He did not know until the last moment. Yes, suddenly everybody just came and took him to the forest. I remember the glade full of tents, cold drinks and snacks, hunting of hares and the competition in archery. He was very content, laugh did not want to leave his belly and when he found out that I in person directed preparations, he was taken alive to heaven. He was not interested into anything for a minute, he kissed my whole face! In public he took me into his arms and did not let go for fifteen minutes!

Ah yes! I am lucky to be married to the man of my dreams and nightmares. Not every woman can marry the loved one. Unfortunately. Such unjust times.

I must go! Time to go for a trip! We will meet again later!

*In the evening*

We have just come back from the walk with climbing in bonus. Who knows, maybe we are first mountaineers in history? I feel that it may become popular in fifty years. It is my love at first sight so I am sure we will be coming here until the end of our lives. In the end this pretty house is ours forever.

After leaving home, ecstasy played on my nerves again. I decided to immediately sit on the luscious grass and started drawing this wonderful scenery. It took me only few minutes, but I hope it gives well what surrounds me lately. I hope it does not look too bad. I am glad and that is enough to me. There is no other miracle that can stop and save this moment, so that it what I could quickly do now.

When I finished, we went for a mountain walk – me, William, Mary, and peasant who lives not too far from here. He took us to the stream, lake, and a little hill where I could watch our house from above. Great feeling of freedom and communing with nature. We must do it again tomorrow.

What more can I say? I had a good time with family in the bosom of nature, in the morning I looked back at wedding memories… Nothing but breathe deeply and keep on living! I think I have never been happier! La vie est belle (life is beautiful)!
