Note No. 26. Romantic End of the Walk

23rd July 1819

My husband and I sneaked out of our common mountain walk. In the pale moonlight we were going home, to our garden, to our arbour. Here he kissed my hand and… started telling me tender poetical words.

- Elizabeth, my flower, shiny star! – here he fell to his knees – There no words which can describe how much I love you! I would jump in fire for you! Ask only! I will even jump in that cold dead lake! Lover! My lovely wife! Queen of my heart! I would do everything for you! I will scream at the top of my lungs how much I love you! – and here he started yelling indeed.

- My sweet lover! You are more tender than poetry!

Suddenly our strokes of sensation have been interrupted by swarms of fireflies. I have no idea where it came from, but it really scared me. William took me to his arms. Then we started laughing.

- You are such a cute woman! Such a little thing can scare you!

- And you are my brave knight, book lover and original man like no other! Do not laugh at me! To punish you, I will throw you to the lake using these hands!

- So passionate…! – I had to put his head in a mess here like he is my son.

- It is time to go home, my dear. Because of you our dinner will be cold. Catherine must be worried. Our guests surely came home a long ago. Maybe Mary is crying! Oh, we must go home now, mon cheri! We cannot let everybody wait that long! Look! Moon starts to shine brighter and brighter!

- Ah! How good to have such a wise and caring wife! So, we are going home immediately!

When we entered the house, we found out that Catherine and coachman were worried about us indeed, Mary helped herself by the table alone (!) and had gone to bed already by the help of our servant, and what is the most interesting – they still were not there! I was worried that it could end with a scandal…

Me and William ate our dishes alone. It was very romantic around so many candles… Every bite he was smiling to me and flirtishly knocking on my shoes. Every slip of the wine he was looking for my hand under the table. His skin was ridiculously hot…

It was late, probably pointless to say what was happening next… Normal marriage and home things… And his brother and Juliette appeared yesterday morning! Scandal!

Therefore, we spent whole day on rest in the drawing room and listening to new lover’s little confession. It was late, dark, cold so they spent a night in a small wooden building. Without any witness! Alone! On the straw! Now there is no turning back and they must get married. I have no doubts that they make a beautiful couple, they look good together and they will be surely happy together, but I think it all happened a little too fast. Is it that hot French blood? Or whole William’s family is this wild? I have no idea! One thing I know for sure – craziness and terrible scandal!

Tomorrow I will finish the story. So many emotions are still boiling inside of me… Ah!
